Stepping into the Rearview: The AZDOME 12″ Mirror Dash Cam Backup Camera Review
The AZDOME 12″ Mirror Dash Cam Backup Camera is a must-have in this digital age. As we were exploring the gadget, we could easily see why it has earned a solid 4.2/5 rating on Amazon.
Specifications
Featuring a 12”IPS full touch screen, the entire operation is made easy with ultra-wide field of view, providing maximum safety as it eliminates the blind spots. The front camera is 2K and the rear camera delivers 1080p quality, which serves impressive detailed imagery. Thanks to the upgraded low-reflectivity LCD and the 6-layer glass lens, night vision is exceptional even in dark environments.
We were quite impressed with the GPS Tracking functionality that with the included GPS Antenna, you can add driving speed, routes and locations to the recorded clips. Most of the essential functions like Parking Monitoring, Loop Recording, G Sensor, and Split-Screen Display are present here. It’s worth mentioning that the dash cam comes with a complimentary 64GB SD card and supports up to 128GB.
The mirror camera also touts the increasingly trendy WiFi/App control, allowing you to manage everything right from your smartphone, regardless of whether you’re using iOS or Android. You’d be amazed at how easy it is to download, edit, and share your videos.
Pros and Cons
However, while navigating the features and testing the dashcam, there were a few ups and downs we noticed. Let’s take a gander at what they are.
The vivid and clear picture quality was certainly the standout feature. Both the forward and rear-facing cameras deliver clear footage while remaining discreet. We found, though, that the dashboard camera causes a slight visibility hindrance depending on the ambient lighting. For night owls or frequent nighttime drivers, some reported that the starburst effect on a car’s headlights limits visibility.
Installation-wise, while it comes with many tools to assist you, not everyone will find it a walk in the park, particularly those who are not particularly handy. A couple of users noted that you might have to hire someone to professionally install the hardware and hide the cords. Another downside was that for certain vehicle types such as a four-door long bed RAM, the rear camera cord did not reach the back.
In general, the touch screen navigation of the mirror camera is seamless and convenient. But we did observe that the mirror camera tends to wobble in idle or when the car is in motion, perhaps more so than regular rear-view mirrors. This could be a small nuisance for drivers who prefer a completely stable rear-view mirror.
However, overcoming these hiccups, the AZDOME Mirror Dash Cam certainly does hold its ground when it comes to delivering excellent image quality and comprehensive functionality, even more so when considering its very competitive pricing.
In conclusion, this device seamlessly blends into any car interior and essentially has all the features one can expect from a high-end product at this price point. A wise investment, indeed.
