The Penemay Dual Dash Cam Comprehensive Review
Our team at Retro Tech Drives put the Penemay Dual Dash Cam to a rigorous test drive recently and we’re impressed by its innovative features and superior performance. The dash cam set comes equipped with a 170° wide-angle 1080P front camera and a VGA waterproof rear camera, providing full coverage of the road ahead and behind. With its 3-inch IPS display that offers real-time image view, the front camera impressively captures visible details, including road signs and license plates, even in the dark.
One big plus for this dash cam is the inclusion of a high-quality 32GB micro SD card, which certainly saves extra costs and hassles for users. The card is conveniently pre-inserted in the dashcam, so it’s ready to roll as soon as you unwrap the package.
The Penemay dual Dash Cam also boasts a noteworthy Super Night Vision feature. The high-quality Sony Sensor ensures that this camera can record in full HD, even in low light conditions. Nighttime recordings are brighter and overexposure under strong light prevented as the camera maintains the clarity of the visuals. This enhanced night vision function significantly improves safety during nighttime drives.
The camera’s parking monitor function is a significant feature worth noting. If you enable this function, any impact felt by the car when unattended will cause the dash cam to automatically record a short video. While this is an excellent feature, it’s important to note that to use a 7*24H parking monitor, you’ll need an additional hard wire kit for installation.
The dash cam also comes with a loop recording and an accident lock feature. Even when the SD card is full, the dash cam seamlessly continues recording. However, if a collision is detected, the built-in G-sensor triggers the accident lock which saves the recording and prevents it from being overwritten. Operating through an intuitive user interface, this dash camera also offers an easy installation process. The manual provides clear and comprehensive instructions, enabling you to quickly set up the dash cam using the included suction mount.
While the Penemay Dual Dash Cam largely impressed us with its performance, we did observe a few hiccups. Despite boasting a claimed 1080p resolution, we found that it could not record at any higher resolution, and this was particularly noticeable considering it is equipped with a 12MP sensor. We also found the suction mount could be a bit shaky and might not be robust enough, especially on rough terrains or bumpy rides. Additionally, setting up the rear camera proved to be a bit more complex than anticipated and it required extra time and effort.
Nonetheless, the comprehensive features, high functionality, and overall reliable performance outweigh the minor cons of the Penemay Dual Dash Cam. It’s a worthy contender in the dash cam market, offering excellent value for the money. Whether for security, record keeping, or simply capturing a drive on film, this dash cam has proven itself to be a comprehensive and reliable tool for any driver.
